I always loved playing the drums growing up, but during our recent move, I had to say goodbye to my drum set because baby toys took priority. Life changes, right? But that’s the beauty of it—priorities shift, and new adventures begin. One of those new adventures for me started in June of 2024, when I officially joined the HSS Board.

My journey to HSS began with a conversation with my friend Mary Beard. She reached out to discuss the possibility of joining the board and spoke so highly of the organization that I had to learn more. That led to a meeting with Anne and Courtney, here I learned more about HSS’s mission and the services they provide. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I wanted to be a part of it, especially since some of their services hit close to home for me.

My professional background is in the financial services industry. Over the years, I’ve worked with typical community members—people who love their families, are involved in their communities, and want to build a better life. My role has always been to help them make good, intentional financial decisions that bring them closer to their dreams. This background translates well to the board in two significant ways. First, my analytical and financial expertise is useful for reviewing balance sheets and discussing sound financial decisions. Second, being deeply rooted in the community gives me a good sense of what’s important around here and what activities or ideas might capture our community’s interest.

My first board meeting was quite memorable—it was just after the remodel, and the excitement was palpable. I loved the dynamic discussions as we went through the notes and agenda. I quickly felt at home, though I realized I’d need to get up to speed on all the acronyms! What stood out the most was the passion from the board members—these are folks who genuinely care.

Academically, I graduated from Lindenwood University with a bachelor’s in Corporate Communications. I hold several licenses for the financial side of my business, including Series 6, 63, 65, and 7, as well as Property/Casualty and Life/Health insurance licenses.

I served on the Red Bud Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors for three years, with my term ending in 2023. Currently, I’m not involved with any other organizations.

I live in Waterloo with my wife and two children. I grew up in Red Bud and attended Waterloo High School.

Outside of my professional life, I have a love for all things sports-related and a knack for card tricks—ask me about my favorite one sometime! Life might have taken away my drum set for now, but it’s given me so much more in return.

Frank joined the HSS Board of Directors in May 2023 after attending the Shine Your Light Gala. “Chatting with HSS CEO/President Anne Riley, and past Board member Margaret DeBonis helped me understand the incredible impact of Human Support Services on our community and beyond.”

In his short time on the board, Frank has enjoyed being on the Finance Committee, attending the annual retreat, and speaking at the 2024 Donor Dinner. “These experiences have given me a deeper appreciation for the work that HSS does.”

Frank brings a strong drive to serve others, along with organizational and management skills to his role on the board. Outside of HSS, Frank is the Director of Operations at Confluence Investment Management and is actively involved in various community organizations.

“One of the highlights for me since joining the board has been the energy at the 2024 retreat. The passion and motivation of everyone there really showcased the potential of Human Support Services.”

Frank graduated from Waterloo High School in 1996 and has completed college coursework at Fontbonne University.

In his free time, Frank loves grilling in his backyard oasis and enjoys fly fishing with friends. “Oh, and I’m a huge fan of Microsoft Excel – I find the endless possibilities within the tool absolutely fascinating.”

Frank is proud to call Waterloo home, where he lives with his wife Lauren, daughters Lucy and Sophie, and our puppy Louise. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for HSS with Frank at our side!

If you’re interested in supporting HSS or serving on one of our committees or on our board, contact Courtney Hunter, director of development, at chunter@hss1.org.
